Leotia lubrica
Jelly Baby

Ascomycetes group: white spores form on the surface of the cap.

The cap and stem are very slimy.

Jelly babies grow all over the world. A Finnish web site calls them "Jelly bellies," which rhymes better! New Zealand only has this one version of Leotiaceae

The fallen leaves are from Rimu trees. Notice how these long "fronds" will pull through a dog's fur nicely in one direction but get badly stuck in the other. My spaniel often has to have them cut out of her long coat after a day in the bush.
