The concave cap and a stem liable to break like cork are Russula characteristics

Found in Hunua Ranges, 5/March/2004.

This is growing out of its young stage. Note how the convex cap (pileus) is becoming "dented" and later it will be concave. The violet colour may later have yellow or yellow/green areas, as shown in older specimens on the internet.
