Stinkhorns

The original horn shape is represented in New Zealand by Mutinus borneensis. Many fungi which do not have a horn shape are included in the Stinkhorn group because they spread their spores in much the same way. The spores are contained in a slime or gleba. The slime is disgusting and smells very bad, but flies are attracted by it. The spores are spread by visiting flies.
