STEREO space craft:
Small prominences next day

Anaglyphs by John Wattie from STEREO original leading and following images. He also gives the description, but being an amateur, the description should be taken with a grain of salt!

STEREO image at 171 Å. Quiet sun, April 17 2007.

The sun has rotated and the 11 o-clock cavity is lost

The 1 o'clock cavity remains, but the prominence has erupted out of it, as seen on the 304Å image taken at the same time and shown below.

304 Å image,
lower in the corona and shows the cooler prominences.

The prominence previously at 1 o'clock has erupted.

Spicules show up in the polar coronal holes.

The prominence previously at 11 o'clock has rotated onto the solar disc and is hard to see now.

Roll-over image

Run your mouse over and see that the prominence which yesterday was at 1 o'clock has erupted out of its cavity.

Roll-over image. The prominence has exploded out of its hammock

This image does not do full justice to the incredible detail available from STEREO space craft.
