Rosette Nebula 5x7 Holmes Card

Stereoscopic model by John Wattie

version 030222

A reduced size version of the Holmes format 5x7 stereo card to show where the full size portion was enlarged from.

The south-west corner has been reproduced at the original resolution below.

SW portion of the Rosette Nebula in stereo.

Parallel eye stereo of the south west corner of the Rosette Nebula

Travis Rector describes how he, Wolpa and Hanna obtained the original flat image They used the Mosaic CCD Camera, on the Kitt Peak 0.9 meter telescope, with selective filters to gas emission lines, assembling multiple exposures.

John Wattie made the stereoscopic version  by image processing. The full resolution version is less than a quarter of the original Holmes stereo card.

For those who do not have a Pokescope or Wheatstone stereoscope for parallel eye computer 3D viewing, here are links to other versions:

  1. Anaglyph medium, whole picture

  2. Small U stereo whole

  3. X or cross-eye stereo whole

  4. X Big version SW corner

(The full size colour 3D version of this stereoscopic Holmes card is only available on application to the author because of NOAO copyright.)

Below is an anaglyph version for red / blue  or  red / green  glasses.
Many people interested in astronomical stereo seem to prefer anaglyphs and they are common on the NASA web pages. An anaglyph does not do justice to the colour of the original (admittedly artificial colours in this case)
