Corybas cheesemanii

An NZ endemic and is now our only Corybas. The labellum spurs are closed in Corybas. The flower is say 12mm long on a short stem, open in May-June from the Three Kings to Stewart and the Chatham Islands. Prefers kanuka stands where the flowers may appear like sprinkled pearls in the litter, where the single green leaf is often completely submerged. The stem extends as a scape to say 100mm with the seed capsule erect on top. Can be mistaken for Molloybas cryptanthus, which has a tilted seed capsule and no green leaf below.
