| Cyrtostylis oblonga
A NZ endemic, occurs only in the kauri zone in shady bush. The 15mm flowers occur in pairs on stems to 70mm in August to October. The leaf is solitary, oblong and ground hugging. The common flower colour is a delicate pink but some 10% are white like the one on the left. Pollinated efficiently by the out-house fly, Sylvicola neozelandicus which chews on the twin calli at the base of the labellum, wrecking the flower in the process. |
