Danhatchia australis

Looks like a mushroom coloured stick say 100mm tall in taraire bush (nikau in Nelson) where it is an epiparasite feeding entirely on its mycorrhizal fungus, a parasite attacking the tree roots. It has no green leaves and flowers between Christmas and New Year. Said to be self pollinated but flowers will stay open up to 23 days if unpollinated. Many flowers stay only half open, some never open. These are fully open.
