Molloybas cryptanthus "alba form"

12.

Molloybas (Corybas) cryptanthus “alba-form”

Grows on top of the moss or leaf litter, unlike the commoner mushroom coloured form, which is usually submerged beneath. It is saprophytic with a tawny single leaf or bract, its single 20mm flower opening any time from June to September often under kanuka. Unlike Nematoceras, the forward two filaments are petals not sepals. Known from montane areas from Omoana to Rimutaka Hill. The seed capsule stands on a slant atop the scape which can extend to 100mm and can be mistaken for that of Corybas cheesemanii, whose seed capsule is erect above a submerged green leaf.
