Pterostylis "Peninsula"

Stereoscopic NZ native orchid by Eric Scanlen

Pterostylis “Peninsula” or Peninsula greenhood, was first spotted by Gordon Sylvester on the Brunner Peninsular, Lake Rotoiti, St Arnaud where this one was photographed on 20/12/02.  The flower is 13mm tall on a stem ±120mm, it thrives in damp, mossy, glacial till under second growth beech.  It is unclassified as yet but is similar to Pterostylis graminea, the grass leafed green hood which has a longer dorsal sepal extending well past the crossing tips of the lateral petals.  Gordon has since found Pt. “Peninsula” in Kumara.
